Uh 2,800 delegates were there. Uh there were a bunch of workshops, uh, study tours and learning sessions. Um what I heard, it still couldn't believe, uh couldn't beat um the number of delegates we had in Calgary in 2024. That was one of the biggest ones, or the biggest one. So that's great. Um, five core themes that were uh discussed during conference were federal municipal advocacy, infrastructure and housing delivery, fiscal sustainability, economic growth and trade, intermunicipal collaboration and governance. Some keynote speakers were Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure. Uh Eleanor Olzuski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience. Um, and and and one of the important announcements that happened right on the on the floor was that um Minister Robertson said they're gonna take one billion dollars out of uh six billion dollar direct delivery stream, and they're gonna allocate that to more of a local um." }, { "speaker": "SPEAKER_13", "start": 1550.625, "end": 1607.905, "text": "Local growth mechanism, and this will be worked through uh regional development agencies, for example, Prairie Cannes. A billion dollar out of six, that is that is a huge opportunity for some of the projects here in our city that we are trying to pursue. Uh, Minister LeBlanc, Dominic LeBlanc was there. He's a minister responsible for Canada US trade, intergovernmental affairs. Uh, he talked about US-Canada trade negotiation negotiations. Uh Scott Achinson, Minister of Parliament from Perry Sound Muskoka and Shadow Minister for Housing. He was there. Um, and Abby Lewis, the leader of uh leader of federal New Democrats, he was there. He talked about providing services to communities and major projects, office style setup for housing. And finally, Liz Beth May, Member of Parliament, was there from uh Green Party of Canada. Um, a few motions were passed. Federal support for the forestry sector, 86%, 87% voted for that. This was an important one that was put forward by our friends up north in Edmonton. Pan-Canadian strategy on mental health, addictions, and chronic homelessness. It got 86% support. I think it's a very important one that I'm excited to see what the federal government can do about it. And then strengthen Canada's defense capabilities with local governments. Again, important one. Finally, there was an election of the new uh table officers for 2026-27. Uh Tim Tierney, uh counselor from City of Ottawa, is elected as president. First VP is Kathy Valentino, she's a president of Association of Manitoba Municipalities. And the second VP is Mark Torrett, mayor of the city of Torwell, and third vice presidents Amy Cody, president municipalities of Newfoundland and Labrador. Everybody thank past President Rebecca Ply, who's councilor City of Vancouver. And I think four things that they all talked about was infrastructure, housing, uh, climate, and transit. Uh beautiful there. Nice to see the lake waking up, and they've got a wonderful pathway system around that lake. It's quite beautiful. Uh Calgary was represented by Councillor Andre Chabot, I can confirm he was there, and uh myself. And Chestermere was represented by Mayor Shannon Dean and Deputy Mayor Ratish Narian. The meeting brought together elected officials and senior administration from both municipalities to discuss shared intermunicipal priorities and governance matters. A key part of the meeting was a site visit, actually, to the intersection of Range Road 284 and 17th Avenue. Committee members discussed ongoing safety concerns and congestion at that location, along with possible interim and longer term mitigation options. The discussion reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between our two municipalities on transportation issues that affect residents on both sides of this boundary." }, { "speaker": "SPEAKER_07", "start": 2565.245, "end": 2592.885, "text": "The committee also had a productive discussion on regional water matters with a particular focus on supply resiliency, capital planning, emergency planning, and opportunities for policy alignment. Once feedback was collected, we then compiled the individual feedback and used a weighted ranking system to assign an average score for each project or priority. That's a great example with a new fund. Um, you know, I noticed, for example, you know, route ahead, there's a lot of commentary in the letter, that's great, and and you know, support funding transit. But in our tenure capital budget, $7,800 million a year for the road network and and walking network, et cetera, and that was excluded. So just a curiosity, the selection when you're sort of looking, you know, council priorities was transportation, not just transit. So, you know, that came out versus uh uh clover leaf somewhere, like maybe just reconcile that for us, how those specific 80 million BRT uh northeast uh you know blue line and and so on." }, { "speaker": "SPEAKER_15", "start": 4618.825, "end": 4641.365, "text": "Yeah, I can give a high-level answer, and I know we also have some transit folks here if they want to clarify further. So again, it was really based on shovel-ready projects that were able to move on quickly to show the federal government that we're a trusted partner, and then as well that funding is available for today. Maybe just through that. So if Calgary can't make up their mind, why should we be putting funding that way?
